The Affiliations Office of the Academic Affairs Division of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has held an interactive session with moderators of some of the Affiliate Institutions of KNUST. The session took place at the Gardiner Conference Room, on 21st July 2023.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ellis Owusu-Dabo, opened the session by emphasising KNUST's commitment to enhancing its affiliation with other universities. He highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange and encouraged the sharing of innovative ideas among the institutions. Professor Owusu-Dabo reaffirmed KNUST's reputation as a world-class institution for providing top-quality education. He challenged the moderators to fully understand their roles and responsibilities, highlighting the significance of maintaining consistency and upholding the core values of the University.

Mrs. Oluwakemi Abisola Titiloye, Senior Assistant Registrar of the Affiliations Office, informed the moderators about the newly designed Affiliations Policy Framework, which will serve as a comprehensive guide for their activities. Among their duties, moderators are responsible for ensuring the smooth moderation of assigned programmes, conducting at least two visits to the Affiliate Institutions each semester, moderating examination papers, and incorporating feedback into the final examinations. They are also required to submit written reports on each visit to the Vice-Chancellor through the Affiliations Office, she added.

The former Chairman of the Affiliations Committee, Professor Kwabena Ofori-Kwakye, further elaborated on the Affiliations Policy Framework, discussing the Policy framework for Moderators, responsibilities of the Moderator, initiation and conduct of academic moderation, moderation of examination questions, responsibilities of the Affiliate Institutions, responsibilities of the Affiliations Office, monitoring and evaluation of the Affiliations Policy, and payment of moderators’ allowances. He stressed the crucial role moderators play in maintaining high academic standards in KNUST Affiliated Institutions. Strict adherence to responsibilities and harmonious collaboration with other KNUST representatives (Council and Academic Board Members) in their assigned institutions are expected to achieve the objective of upholding academic excellence in the Affiliate Institutions.
Mr. Patrice Vasco Asamoah, a Systems Analyst, introduced the moderators to a web application developed by the University Information and Technology Services Directorate of KNUST. The user-friendly portal is designed to facilitate and enhance the operations of the Affiliations Office. Its features include institutions' setup, user accounts set up, moderators form, academic board form, evaluation report, and miscellaneous reports.
